About Us
Dementia affects so many people from all walks of life in our community, either directly or indirectly. The Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life offers a refreshing and optimistic opportunity to provide new hope and possibilities for any person with dementia and their families, no matter where in society they are from.
When you donate to the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life, you help alleviate the emotional suffering and ignite the Spark of Life in people with dementia, their families and carers – so all can live life to the fullest here and now.
The focus of Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life is to humanise care for people with dementia. It is about facilitating a culture where people with dementia feel valued, loved and supported.
The Foundation is the charity arm of Dementia Care International. This organisation has developed an innovative Model of Care that is transforming lives in 11 countries.
The purpose of the Foundation is to enable aged care homes and services to have equity of access to this model.
The Foundation was set up on 7th October 2002 as a Trust Fund, registered as a Health Promotion Charity ABN 33 751 758 667.
On July 1st 2011, the Foundation was endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
Following this endorsement, the Foundation went on to obtain Fundraising Licenses in every State within Australia.
Through its fundraising activities, the foundation has been able to bring the Spark of Life Model of Care to people with dementia, their families and carers living in diverse cultures around the world.
A Real Life Story
This is a heart-warming Real Life Story from individual fundraising projects. Two worthy scholarship recipients were able to come from Africa to Australia to learn and share the Spark of Life Philosophy with the people of Nakonde, Zambia, which resulted in the Spark of Life being re-ignited in 92-year-old Daviness.
