Igniting the Spark of Life in people with dementia

Dancing for Dementia

Serina Amiri, originally from Iran, is the Project Manager of  ‘Let’s get Dancing for Dementia’ Fundraising project.

‘I’d like to share my personal story as why I organised a dancing event that can become ongoing support for Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life.

My Grandpa suffered from dementia in the last 6 months of his life, it was hard, heart breaking and very sad for me who loved him so much. He passed away but I was looking for solution to help my grandparents.

When I heard about the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life, I decided to fundraise to support other people with dementia, and honour my Grandpa who passed away 2 years ago.’

‘I encourage you to donate to the Dementia Foundation for Spark of Life. Join in and have fun. I also invite you to organise your own Dancing for Dementia fundraising event. It is easy and brings so much joy to all involved.

Personally, whenever I feel down or going through difficult times, dancing helps me to free my mind and improve my mental health. Additionally, whilst the physical movement of dance helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression, dancing with others also helps us feel more connected and social.’
